Martha Rivera Alanis, a kindergarten teacher in Monterrey, Mexico, found herself right next to a raging narco gun battle at a taxi stand outside of her classroom. Hysteria? Screaming? Crying kindergartners? No. Just kids listening to the voice of their teacher, who sang them Spanish-language Barney songs, while having the presence of mind to document the experience in case things turned worse.

She has been rightfully recognized as a hero.
