The Sexy Katey Sagal Of S.O.A.
During the year 1973, Californian Katey Sagal was backing vocalist for various singers, including Bob Dylan and Tanya Tucker. She was also a member of Bette Midler‘s backup group ‘The Harlettes in 1978 and again from 1982-1983. She also did backing vocals on the self titled Gene Simmons solo album.
At the beginning of her acting career she began by doing made-for-TV-movies from 1971-1975. Her first major role was as a newspaper columnist in the television series “Mary” with Mary Tyler Moore. This led to her getting her famous role of Peggy Bundy in Married … With Children. The series ran from 1987-1997.
To her audition she brought her own red bouffant wig and with the approval of the producers said look was transitioned into the show. In 1991, while on Married … With Children, she got pregnant from her then husband Jack White. Since said pregnancy was unexpected, it was written into the storyline. Unfortunately, on October of 1991, she had an emergency C-section during her 7th month, resulting in the stillbirth of her daughter. As for the show, the pregnancy was regarded as a ‘dream’ and was not mentioned again.
Eventually, Sagal and then husband White did have 2 children (because of the last pregnancy, these were not written in … just in case.) Once Married … With Children ended Sagal did more television films and in 1999, Matt Groening cast her as the sexy purple haired Leela on Futurama. She was also cast as John Ritter‘s wife on 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter (I’ve always thought that title was way too long) in 2002. After Ritter’s death, the show was cancelled in 2005 after its 3rd season.
Currently, she is rocking the biker mama look as toughie Gemma Teller Morrow on Sons of Anarchy which was created by her husband and cast member Kurt Sutter (Otto). Sagal and Sutter married in 2004 and had a daughter through a surrogate mother in 2007.
Katey Sagal did some of the singing for the Sons of Anarchy Soundtrack. Not sure if you guys have heard her sing, but she does have an amazing voice. In 1994, she released her first solo album “Well” and in 2004, her second “Room”.
