Texas is the setting of some of the greatest horror films made. Texas has an entire horror franchise with the word "Texas" in the title! It works perfectly for us Texans who love horror films, especially with Halloween right around the corner.

I emphasize Texans because, as it turns out, I am not the only Texan one who loves horror movies. According to geotagged Twitter data, Texas loves horror movies more than other states.

The map above is based on geotagged Twitter data beginning from October 1st, tracking tweets and hashtags about watching horror movies. The hashtags included were: #horrormovies, #scarymovies, #scarymovienight, #horrorfilms, #horrorlover, #horrorfan, etc. In addition, FreeForm's Halloween programming block was also included with the hashtag #31nightsofhalloween. Over 160,000 tweets were tracked. And it looks like Texans lead the way.

As you can see from the map, the Southwest and Midwest seems to enjoy watching horror movies the most this year.

The top 10 horror movie states are as follows:

1. Texas
2. Illinois
3. Indiana
4. Ohio
5. New Jersey
6. Utah
7. California
8. Alaska
9. Arizona
10. Michigan

The map was put together by Valencia Home Entertainment and Theater Seating Company, using trends software with direct access to geotagged Twitter data.

It's possible that these hashtags are used purely during the Halloween season, but it does warm my cold, little heart to see so many get into the spirit of Halloween by watching some horror movies! Since Halloween will look hella different this year and you're unsure what to watch for your Halloween night in check out my list of "Great Halloween Movies". Happy Halloween!
