The summer of 2023 in El Paso and across Texas was insane; setting records and causing problems from its semi-early start to it's blistering finish. 2024 may be worse.

Texas set all kinds of heat records in 2023 and now experts are saying there's a 1 in 3 chance that 2024 will be even hotter.

That's going to really, really suck if it happens.

Since it seems winter is pretty much done, the mercury is already rising. Wet 'N Wild Waterworld is a great place to cool off but you can's swim all day, everyday. The only way to really cool off when it's stupid hot is to get the you-know-what out of Dodge.

Here Are 3 Great Places Near El Paso To Escape The Summer Heat:

Ruidoso - Located just a couple of hours north of El Paso, you can typically find temps about 20 degrees lower than those in El Chuco. On top of being more comfortable, there is lots to do there like hiking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding or just dropping by the dispensary.

Cloudcroft - Ruidoso's little brother sits right next door, just a tad closer to Alamogordo. Beautiful and beautifully cooler then the 915, there are also fun things to do there. I suggest a visit to The Lodge. A very cool hotel that is straight out of a Stephen King novel.

Silver City - Also a couple of hours away, Silver City is northwest of El Paso in the Pinos Altos mountains. Just about any activity you can think of can be done there ... hunting, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, dispensary hopping, you name it.

All while, again, being WAY cooler than the desert that lies a few thousand feet below.
