Back in February, I wrote an article surrounding the mystery of this new place that took over the old Wendy's location on Mesa St in El Paso, Texas. We knew something was opening up but we didn't know when nor did we have a way to really look up this place online. Well, now we know and the mystery has been solved; it's a burger place that just opened up this week. And this is what you can expect to see.

How does Smash Burger compare to other El Paso burger places?

When comparing the size of the place, it's much smaller than what you'd expect to see if you go to a Toro Burger, a Whataburger, or a Papa Eric's. If you remember going to that Wendy's, you definitely still get those vibes (and maybe even memories too) The menu is much smaller than what you'd expect too. The burger menu itself is only about 6 items; 4 burgers & 2 chicken sandwiches.

But you can still get other items too like fries, salads, hot dogs (or chili dogs). Everything, however, is served a la carte; so there are no combos right now. The sodas too are sold in bottles as there's no fountain drink fountain currently.

All the food items are sold individually so keep that in mind when visiting. Also because the place just opened, the wait might take a while. It took about 15 minutes for me (which given the amount of people working there is not bad).

How's the food at Smash Burgers in El Paso?

While the burgers are not as beefy as you'd find at Crave, Block Table Tap or Rockstar Burger Bar, they ARE PLENTY juicy. I had the #1 with a side order of salt & vinegar crinkle fries; the fries are just as tasty as those at Charcoaler's. It's hard to make a full comparison when trying the burgers; the closest (as our engineer put it) is that of a Roscoe Burger.

While I'm still not sure if the place is called Smash Burgers...or Smash Juicy Burgers (or maybe Juicy Smash Burgers?), I definitely enjoyed going.

If I was going to throw out at least 2 suggestions, they would be:

  • I'd love to see more items added to the burger/chicken sandwich section; personally a bacon burger or a green chile burger would be nice.
  • And seeing a drink fountain would certainly be a welcome sight.

There's also no phone number or a page online so the only way to find out about Smash Burgers (or Juicy Smash Burgers) is to find it on 3501 N Mesa.
