The City of Juarez asked the singer Juan Gabriel to perform a free concert to help relaunch the image of the city. Ever since the early 2000s, our neighbors to the south had to deal with constant violence. Drug cartels had an all out war in the city’s streets. Thankfully it's almost non-existent now.

Juan Gabriel is so loved that I’m sure he came to this planet on a shooting star. This past Saturday, The Divo himself headlined a huge concert in our sister city, Juarez. It was packed with 138,000 fans who saw the Mexican singer in the Plaza of the X. Authorities report a couple of people fainted during the event but no other major problems occurred.

A couple of months ago, my friend invited me to have lunch in Juarez. I got a little nervous crossing over but once I reached the other side, I was greeted by everything I love. It was a new adventure into a city I didn’t visit in over 10 years. The people were friendly, the streets were filled with music and the food was delicious.

Juarez has launched a campaign to get Americans back over the border visiting our friends to the south. You can catch a ride to Juarez from the El Paso Saddle Blanket. The trips include tour of the various casinos that have popped up. It’s cool for me because I've never been to Vegas and I don’t want to travel up into the mountains just to play at the gambling tables. Looks like I will be visiting Juarez more often.
