While Microsoft has been talking up how large a part the cloud will play in the future of the Xbox One, it seems the company has grander designs in mind for the cloud.

According to sources speaking with The Verge, Microsoft has been tinkering with a cloud streaming service to send games to mobile devices. Reports claim Microsoft had Halo 4 streaming on the Nokia Lumia 520. This is believed to be the first step in Microsoft offering more gaming possibilities for its various Windows line-ups.

The sources indicate the service is merely in the prototyping stage at the moment, but could evolve into something bigger and better in the coming months or year. Whether this is Microsoft's attempt to follow Sony's lead with its planned Gaikai streaming, which could offer backwards compatible streamed games, remains to be seen.
