Marriage Proposal by Guns N’ Roses’ DJ Ashba Results in Stiff Punishment of Police Officers

Guns N’ Roses guitarist DJ Ashba popped the question to his girlfriend Nathalia Henao in the most romantic of ways back in August, but the result is anything but romantic for three Las Vegas police officers.

The proposal sparked an investigation after the use of a Las Vegas police helicopter came into question. While Ashba and Henao have since married, a Vegas police captain has now retired in lieu of the investigation, an air support lieutenant was transferred elsewhere and the helicopter pilot who flew Ashba and Henao is no longer allowed to fly for the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.

Before Ashba asked for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage, he arranged for a special helicopter flight over Las Vegas. “That was the most incredible day of our life!! Special thx to the Las Vegas Police Dept. for the most amazing helicopter private tour over Vegas!” Ashba wrote on his Instagram page. “We landed in a field at Police headquarters [where] I had a table set up covered in roses n a bottle of the bubble stuff for @naty_yummi8 as we walked up to the table @karikaisner slipped me the ring, and thats when I proposed! it was beautiful she didn’t expect a thing, it was magical. And thanks to our good friends for helping making it all happen!! Shortly after Ashba’s post, the LVMPD looked into the “misuse” of the helicopter, finalizing their investigation just before the New Year began. Capt. David O’Leary was set to be demoted to lieutenant but retired shortly before the disciplinary action was handed down. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, an unnamed officer with “knowledge of the situation” claimed that O’Leary “was basically forced out.”

Additionally, air support lieutenant Tom Monahan was transferred to a patrol bureau and Roy Horsley, who piloted the helicopter for Ashba, will be transferred out of air support effective Jan. 11. Ashba has yet to comment on the situation.
