How a Hanks Graduate Ended up in Barbie World

Barbie the movie has officially hit the smaller screen as it debuted on MAX this past weekend! By now you know that one man who grew up in El Paso, Texas makes a small cameo in the movie.

I'm talking, of course, about Ryan Piers Williams, who happens to be America Ferrera's real life husband. He's also a brilliant writer, director and actor. This past summer when 'Barbie' premiered in theaters, fans were quick to notice that he makes a cameo in the film portraying Ferrera's husband.

Well, now that it's on MAX I got the chance to check the movie out- which I loved, of course- but I also thought his quick cameo in the film was so endearing! But just exactly how did that cameo come to be? Was it just because he's Ferrera's husband and she plays one of the leads? Well, kind of.

On Clayton Davis' podcast, who is a writer for Variety, 'Barbie' director Greta Gerwig herself explained how Williams got that surprise cameo. Williams shared the explanation on his social media account this past week, check it out below!

How cute is it that it just happened that Williams himself was trying to practice his Spanish? It'll come in handy when he visits El Paso because according to this article, he usually visits during the holidays.

Williams and Ferrera have been married for 12 years now. They met back in 2005 when he cast Ferrera in his short film 'Muertas', about the ongoing murders of women and young girls in Juarez.
