The El Paso foster father accused of sexually abusing two children in his custody more than a decade ago is finally behind bars.  58 year old Antonio Huerta has surrendered and is now facing charges of aggravated sexual assault on children.  Police say Antonio and his wife Sandra sexually abused an eleven-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl between 2000 and 2002.  Meanwhile, one of the Huerta's former neighbors says he doesn't believe the allegations.

FBI Director James Comey says rumors that ISIS terrorists are camped out across the border near Juarez are nonsense. Comey told reporters during a news conference in El Paso those rumors are frustrating because the FBI has to spend time and money following up on every possible tip about terrorism.  It was Comey's second visit to El Paso since taking over as FBI Director two years ago.

Former GOP Lawmaker Questions Governor Abbott

A former Texas lawmaker is blasting Governor Abbott for pandering to conspiracy theorists who believe the federal government plans to confiscate guns and declare martial law.  The governor has ordered the Texas State Guard to monitor U.S. military training operations beginning in mid-July.  Radio host Alex Jones and many of his followers claim operation "Jade Helm 15" is part of a secret federal plan to take control of Texas and other western states.  Former State Representative Todd Smith says he's not sure if the governor actually believes this "radical nonsense."

Police Fatally Shoot Burglary Suspect

A 22-year-old burglary suspect has died after being shot by El Paso Police.  The dead man has been identified as Erick Sanchez who was shot Wednesday night following a confrontation with police.  According to police reports, Sanchez was originally tased with a stun gun after threatening to kill police.  However, police say the taser had no effect, and Sanchez was shot after he charged at police with a metal object.  He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Six-Year-Old Dies In Crash

El Paso police are investigating the death of a six-year-old boy who was killed in a chain reaction accident on I-10.  The victim has been identified as Mark Viescas Junior who was one of three children in one of the vehicles.  Police say none of the children were properly restrained in a child booster seat.  So far, no charges have been filed as a result of the six-vehicle accident.

Lawmakers Approve Highway Funding

The Texas House has approved a bill to shift more than three-billion dollars a year to the state transportation department.  The vote comes after transportation officials have called for an additional five-billion dollars a year to keep roads and traffic from getting worse.  The state Senate has already approved a bill to pump an extra two-point-five billions dollars into the transportation department.
