When you vote this November, you're going to see an interesting question on the ballot: State lawmakers are proposing a constitutional amendment that would guarantee your "right" to hunt and fish. Critics argued unsuccessfully that there's no need for such an amendment, because no one is trying to keep people from hunting or fishing.
Community Colleges Lobby Against Budget Cut
The presidents of dozens of community colleges will be fanning out across the State Capitol today. They're trying to convince lawmakers not to cut their funding. Although the House and Senate have yet to agree on a new state budget, both of their versions include cuts for the state's 50 community college systems.
Click It Or Ticket Underway In El Paso
Don't be surprised if you see lots of extra cops over the next week-or-so. El Paso police are putting additional officers on the streets, as part of their annual "Click It Or Ticket" campaign. Although they'll be looking for all types of violations, they're especially looking for people who aren't wearing their seat belts. The crackdown runs through the Memorial Day weekend.
Las Cruces Students Mourn Death Of Teacher
Students at Las Cruces' Centennial High School are mourning the death of a popular teacher. Jerry Welch was killed this week in a motorcycle crash. His wife, Christina was critically injured in the accident. School officials are offering counseling to any students who request it.
El Paso Gets Israeli Sister City
El Paso has a new "sister city." Mayor Oscar Leeser signed the deal yesterday with his counterpart from the Israeli city of Hadera. Leeser says the arrangement will be good for El Paso, hopefully bringing new investment to the region.
