Bomb Squad Investigates Package Outside Home In Lower Valley

Things are returning to normal at a home in El Paso's Lower Valley after a bomb squad was called out to investigate a suspicious package.  Police say the bomb squad reported to the home on the 8100 block of Staghorn Drive last night after a suspicious package was found near the sidewalk outside the home.  Explosives experts were able to determine there was nothing dangerous inside the package.  Police cleared the scene around 9:00 p.m.

Man Allegedly Steals Credit Card From Woman

Police are searching for a man accused of stealing a woman's credit card and then making fraudulent charges with it.  Police say the victim dropped her credit card at a gas station ATM in Mission Valley over the weekend.  The male suspect allegedly picked it up and used it that same day to make purchases at two different Walmarts on Gateway West and off of Montana.  The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male wearing a black baseball cap and a black T-shirt.

Svarzbein Beats Weisenberger For El Paso City Council Seat

An El Paso architecture instructor is taking a seat on the city council.  Thirty-four-year-old Peter Svarzbein defeated attorney and former car dealership owner Al Weisenberger in Saturday's District One runoff election for the seat.  Svarzbein beat Weisenberger with 431 votes.

Hurricane Center: Tropical Disturbance Could Become Named Storm

A tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico could become a named storm in the next 48 hours.  The National Hurricane Center says there is an 80 % chance the disturbance could become Tropical Storm Bill today or Tuesday.  The storm could also make landfall on the coasts of Texas and Louisiana.  The system could drench the Houston area with four to 8 inches of rain.  The rain is expected to be out of the area by Thursday or Friday.

Cowboys' Bryant Considering Sitting

Dallas Cowboys wide out Dez Bryant is putting pressure on the organization.  Bryant told the NFL Network over the weekend that he is contemplating sitting out the Cowboys' regular season opener if a long-term contract is not reached by July 15th.  The Oklahoma State product has yet to sign his franchise tag which guarantees him $12.8 million this season.  If a deal is not reached by the deadline, Bryant will have to play under the franchise tag or not play at all.  The 26 year old had 88 catches for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns last season.
