According to this study, the worst neighborhood in El Paso is also one of it's oldest.

El Paso has lots to be proud of; the weather is awesome, we're one of the safest cities in America and we're a big city with a small town feel just to name a couple. However, no place is perfect.

A 2022 study ranked El Paso's best and worst neighborhoods and its oldest was deemed its worst.

Chihuahuita is over 200 years old and was ranked last year as El Paso's worst neighborhood by roadsnacks.com.

Roadsnacks used population, the previous years ranking, average home value and average income to come up with their list. Here's how Chihuahuita looked:

Population: 167
Rank Last Year: 1 (No Change)
Median Home Value: $64,200 (5th worst)
Median Income: $16,307 (4th worst)

A few years back, on its 200th anniversary, Chihuahuita was also named "friendliest neighborhood" in El Paso.

The same methodology was used to determine the rest of the top 10 worst 'hoods in El Paso and they all held the same ranking in 2022 as they did in 2021. I wasn't able to find a 2023 list.

  1. Chihuahuita
  2. A Presidential Neighborhood
  3. Magoffin
  4. Alameda Business
  5. Eagle
  6. San Juan
  7. Chamizal
  8. Borderland
  9. Houston Park
  10. Central

I'm not sure that I entirely agree with list but I can't really say I'm in 100% disagreement either. No offense to anyone but we do have some shady spots around town.

Some are named on that list, others are not. Even some of the best parts of town have questionable areas here and there.
