A woman named Ashley says she was SHAMED by members of an Oklahoma City church when she brought cilantro…which they mistook for marijuana…to church.

I have extensive church experience, especially when it comes to potlucks, so I feel like I have invaluable insight into this situation. Let’s break it down.

1.) THIS LOOKS LIKE IT’S HAPPENING IN THE “VESTIBULE” OR THE AREA JUST OUTSIDE THE SANCTUARY.

You can hear the sermon going on in the background. I can’t understand why the food is being brought into the sanctuary in the first place. Usually, you take it over to a part of the church called “Fellowship Hall” (in Baptist parlance, anyway) and a couple of the older ladies from the congregation are responsible for setting it all out. Then, after the sermon, everyone comes over to Fellowship Hall and fills a plate.

2.) WAS IT JUST THE CILANTRO?

Ashley is heard saying that the “weed” is actually just cilantro for the menudo she brought. I don’t see the menudo in the video…in fact, I don’t see ANY food other than a restaurant container that I assume has the menudo in it. But where are the foods OTHER people brought? Unless…this wasn’t a potluck situation at all. Hmmm….

3.) WAS SHE JUST BRINGING MENUDO FOR HER TO EAT AT CHURCH??

The lack of any other foodstuffs AND the fact that this is just out of the sanctuary makes me wonder: maybe Ashley just brought some menudo to snack on DURING the sermon.

I can tell you from 18 years of church experience…bringing a snack to a church service is frowned upon.

3.) CILANTRO LOOKS NOTHING LIKE MARIJUANA, RIGHT?

I’ve only ever seen fresh cilantro on menudo. If there’s a dry or powdered version then I’m not aware of it. But fresh cilantro could only be mistaken for marijuana by someone who has never seen marijuana OR menudo.

4.) EVERYBODY IN OKLAHOMA SHOULD AT LEAST KNOW WHAT MARIJUANA SMELLS LIKE BY NOW

If you’re not aware, they made weed legal in Oklahoma a couple of years ago. There are marijuana dispensaries, almost LITERALLY, on every corner. I know towns that have more dispensaries than they do gas stations and that’s NOT an exaggeration. My hometown (population 11,000 and rapidly dwindling) now has zero book stores and 15 dispensaries.  I find it hard to believe that there wasn’t a single person there who couldn’t tell mary-jane from cilantro. They don't call it Toke-lahoma for nothing, guys.
