Want to De-Clutter Your Life? Take Pictures of Your Stuff
Over the past week I've been moving, and it's now time to start getting rid of things. Which can be very difficult to do. I remember when I was in my early teens my mom sold off all my He-Man toys, and I was heart broken. All those memories, gone. So I was adamant about getting them back. And bless my mom, many years later when I was in my late 20s, she bought all of them on eBay for me.
Well, now I think is the time to get rid of them again. They just sit in a box and take up space. Penn State recently did a study where they asked people to donate items. One ad campaign asked people to take pictures and then donate, while the other just asked to donate. The group that took pictures ended up donating 14% more items than those that didn't.
The thought behind this is that by taking a picture, you are preserving those memories, which makes it easier to get rid of things. Guess I'll find out when I get home and start taking pictures of things.
