How To Best Use The Jet El Paso Sold For A Measly $10K
The city of El Paso recently sold an abandoned jet at auction for $10 grand. We now know who bought it and here are 2 things they can do with it.
The passenger jet went cheap, less than a used Harley Davidson motorcycle, because it "wasn't air worthy" and needs a ton of TLC. The Boeing 727 sat at El Paso's airport for about 20 years before the city took ownership and auctioned it off in January.
There's a special website the city uses to unload all kinds of used equipment and, in this case, it got Ismael and John Lara a cheap jet. Or a jet, cheap - depends on how you look at it.
The two local educators now have to figure out what to do with it. Some of their own ideas include making it into a flight simulator, lounge or just reselling it. Whatever the Lara's do will be costly, just moving it may run $250K. Here are my 2 suggestions ...
An Airbnb.
Refurbish it, add a couple of bedrooms kinda like Elvis did, and rent it out. Include a "stewardess" to make drinks for the guests and walk around handing out peanuts. Think big like these zillionaires and put in a gym, (6:48), a pool (8:53), or a stable. (8:39) Indoor parking too, what the hell? (8:36)
Complete the experience with:
- A long wait to board
- Be sure all guests empty their pockets, remove their shoes and get wanded
- Take away their snacks, liquids, etc
- Have the stewardess sit back and chill for half the stay due to "turbulence"
- Offer little in the way of food and be sure whatever you do have, sucks.
- Be sure the drinks are extra expensive, especially in the "waiting to board" area
Start a smuggling school.
Forget the flight simulator, the money these days is in contraband. Outfit it with secret compartments and offer classes on loading in the dark, taping good, tight bundles, throwing drug dogs off scent, map reading, evasive flight maneuvers and, should things get out of hand, parachuting.
Maybe a creative writing course for alibis, explanations, fake manifests, etc. A class on "smugglers rights" might be a good idea along with a conditioning course to make sure students can outrun "La Migra".
