Throughout the rest of this week and on Monday, the City of El Paso, El Paso County, and the El Paso United Family Resiliency Center are coming together to host various events around the city and online to honor the 23 victims of the August 3rd Walmart shooting. There will be a luminaria walk in downtown Cleveland Square Park Thursday evening, along with a drive-thru luminaria remembrance at Ascarate Park Sunday and Monday evenings. Even if you can't attend these two events in-person, you can still honor and remember those we lost at your home.

The United Way of El Paso is giving free luminarias to the community to decorate their front door or front porch on the evening of August 3rd at 8:30 pm. You can pick up a luminaria kit in advance at one of these 3 locations around town:

  • YMCA Westside
    • Located at 7145 North Mesa Street
    • Hours:
      • Monday - Thursday (5 am - 10 pm)
      • Friday (5 am - 8 pm)
      • Saturday (7 am - 5 pm)
      • Sunday (9 am - 4 pm)
  • YMCA Eastside
    • Located at 2044 Trawood
    • Hours:
      • Monday - Thursday (5 am - 10 pm)
      • Friday (5 am - 8 pm)
      • Saturday (8 am - 5 pm)
      • Sunday (11 am - 4 pm)
  • YMCA Northeast
    • Located at 5509 Will Ruth Avenue
    • Hours:
      • Monday - Thursday (5:30 am - 9 pm)

Those who attend the drive-thru luminaria remembrance at Ascarate Park will also be given complimentary luminaria kits to take home. The community is invited to put their luminarias on their porch Monday, August 3rd at 8:30 pm. Let's come together as a community to honor the loved ones lost on that day and unite a community that is still healing from those horrific events.
