Step Into Style: Japan Loves These Famous Boots From West Texas
Texas loves boots, especially in El Paso. And we should, the city is called the "Boot Capital of the World" after all. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that people across the United States will come for the boots made here. But as pointed out on Reddit, the Tony Lama brand is actually available in Japan too.
Where is the Tony Lama shop in Japan?
As posted in the El Paso subreddit, there is indeed a store that says "Tony Lama" found in Kyoto, Japan.
If you do a Google Maps search, indeed...YES. You WILL find the shop with the "Tony Lama" sign on it. If you're curious about the address, it's "Japan, 〒600-8128 Kyoto, Shimogyo Ward, Daikucho, 489".
That's not the only Japanese shop that sells Tony Lama boots either; Nishikino recently sold a pair of black leather boots (and they're sold out too).
When did Tony Lama start in El Paso, Texas?
The Tony Lama shop was founded in El Paso back in 1911; the first store opened up at 109 E Overland St -- you can see an image of what the shop used to look like, thanks to the El Paso History Alliance Facebook page.
Today there are at least 3 Tony Lama Factory Outlets shops found in El Paso & the boots are sold in thousands of stores in the United States (and obviously) around the world.
That's not the only time you can find a bit of Texas in Japan, there's a Texas restaurant found in Japan & and in various countries that you can read about here.
