Friendship may be the Texas state motto, but one city in the Lone Star state has taken the crown as the rudest city according to a new study. Considering the south is known for it's charm and manners, lots of southern cities ended up on Preply's list of rudest cities!

How did Preply figure this out? Preply surveyed over 1,500 residents of the 30 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. and asked them about the rudeness level of their city, including the prominence of certain typically rude behaviors, to help travelers determine what to expect when visiting that city.

So, where did Texas land? While it didn't land in the top ten of the rudest cities, Houston, Texas was ranked number 13th rudest city by Preply! Houston scored an 8.04 out of ten on their rudeness scale.

What was considered rude behavior? Things like lack of awareness in public like playing loud videos in shared places, talking on speakerphone in public and rudeness to service staff members are just some of the behaviors that branded some of these cities as the most rude. Actually, a big majority of the rudeness behaviors involved phones!

Preply had previously done this survey in 2022, and it turns out back then Houston was also Texas's rudest city. Other major cities like Austin, Dallas and San Antonio made the list but their rudeness scale fell around 7 to 7.4 out of ten.

One other key takeaway from the survey that Preply found was that the length of time someone has lived in the city can influence how others perceive their rudeness. Another key finding was that the older an American is, the more likely they are to think transplant residents are ruder than natives in their city. Transplant residents are also thought to be more rude by both natives and transplants themselves!
