It's that time of the year when Khalid and his mother along with other organizations help out the El Paso community. The Great Khalid Foundation had their back-to-school program application open for schools to apply. Some schools had the opportunity to apply for The Great Khalid Foundation's Back-to-School backpack and supply giveaway.

The purpose behind this good cause is to help financially struggling parents out. Our children need the proper tools to achieve academically. Last year the school that received the backpacks was SSG Manuel R. Puentes Middle School. Principal Monica Castro's won over hearts with her compassionate words.

This time around the lucky school that will be receiving backpacks filled with school supplies was Parkland Pre-Engineering Middle School. The 6th graders will be rocking a new backpack and using brand-new school supplies. Those 6th graders are feeling pretty special knowing their school was chosen by The Great Khalid Foundation.

This good cause wouldn't be possible without Walmart, West Star, Mattress Firm, FirstLight Federal Credit Union, Coast Guard Recruiting (Albuquerque), and The Electric Company. Thanks to those sponsors 700 area middle school students will be well equipped. But most of all thankful for The Great Khalid Foundation and what they do for the El Paso community.

Every year The Great Khalid Foundation urges middle schools to apply in April. Khalid's non-profit organization has been doing great things to help out those who struggle. Especially single parents who have to live on a budget on a daily basis just to survive. So if you're a parent to a future 6th grader next year, urge the school Principal to apply.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
