Local Bartender Babe – Meet Jannet and the Worst Pick-Up Line She’s Ever Heard
Photo by Alex Chavez[/caption]When I say Jannet is versatile, I mean it. She's not only a bartender but also goes to school AND writes the love column for The City Magazine. So if you ever need urgent love advice, there’s no need to wait for next month’s issue when you can always go directly to the source!
I met Jannet through a mutual friend shortly after she moved to El Paso from Phoenix about 5 years ago. She’s the type of person you instantly like and I make sure and visit her whenever I’m on the eastside and have a bit of time to spare.
Jannet was nice enough to answer some questions for me and even give me the recipe to her signature drink! You can catch her at Smokey's on Zaragoza.

Do you have a favorite type of customer?
I just like the customer that is laid back and is there to have a good time. I dislike the ones who are extremely picky and impatient.
What's the worst pickup line you've heard while working?
There have been so many, but the one that comes to mind is..."You are so sweet, and I'm definitely craving some dessert." Gag!
What's the best and least offensive way to get your attention during a rush?
A simple excuse me, and a wave with a smile is the best way. We absolutely hate the shouting!
What's the craziest/funniest thing you've experienced or witnessed while working?
Working at a bar you definitely get your share of funny/ crazy stories. I would have to say people falling is always amusing.
