Thank You Beto, For Showing The World The Beauty Of El Paso
NOTE: This isn't a political post about his platform, but a thank you for bringing the great things about El Paso on the nation's radar.
Our El Pasoan may have lost the race, but he impacted the entire nation and brought the world to the Sun City to see what we have to offer. We know that not everyone in El Paso is a Democrat. Not everyone is a Republican. This isn't a gushing post about his political platform or his beliefs so the angry comments can wait. This is a post about Beto O'Rourke's appreciation of the city he came from, and how we appreciate what he has done for the city. We had international news media in the city on Tuesday night, many for the first time in their lives. It was heartwarming to be downtown and meeting people from all over and them voicing their appreciation for the Sun City. MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes was in town election night and took to Twitter to let his almost 2 million followers know his feelings after visiting El Paso:
Beto ran an almost two-year campaign, where he traveled throughout the entire state of Texas and voiced his love and adoration for the Sun City. Many in this great state have never even driven through, let alone spent time in El Paso. Having an El Paso representative on the national platform discussing all the great qualities the city has to offer people is refreshing and new. When outsiders think of El Paso, this is the wild west where bullets are flying past you while walking through downtown, with nothing to do and you can't go anywhere without knowing Spanish.
In reality, El Paso is a beautiful and diverse city that continues to grow every year. Anytime I have friends or family in town to visit, they fall in love with the friendly people, beautiful weather and fun activities. Head out for a hike in the middle of winter, a bike ride through downtown and find a good bargain, grab dinner and a movie at our fabulous Alamo Drafthouse or go see all the stars at night in the middle of the desert. El Paso has so much to offer not only our community but the entire nation, even the world. Those who assume we're a simple, dusty desert town are doing a disservice to themselves by not stopping by for a visit. A great desert getaway, with delicious food, beautiful people and stunning skies to view year-round. El Paso, we've been in love for a long time, and I'm happy to share you with the rest of the world, thanks to Beto.
