Thanks To Texas, Sam’s Club Is Shutting These Down
A pilot program in Texas did so good that Sam's Club is dropping 2 key services in all 600 stores across the USA.
I'm ok with one of these but a little "ehh" on the other one. I've already tried it and it wasn't exactly a smooth, flawless experience. Sam's seems pretty happy with it though.
Sam's Club is doing away with cashiers and receipt checkers.
Sam's Club based their decision on how well their systems worked at a store in Grapevine, Texas. Hopefully, they worked out the bugs that held me up here in El Paso.
I'm ok with skipping the shoplifting accusation as I leave the store but I had some issues with the, soon to be mandatory, self checkout thing. It's called Scan & Go and it had some pricing glitches when I used it.
Why Is Scan & Go A Good Idea?
It does away with all lines, whether for a manned cash register or a self checkout machine. YOU handle everything on your phone. Sounds pretty cool, huh?
It kinda is, shopping was much nicer knowing that I would have zero wait. You open the Sam's App, scan your items as you get them, pay via the app and then walk right out the door.
What's Wrong With Scan & Go?
Not much but, a couple of things to note - There doesn't seem to be any way to use cash and some prices weren't correct. If it doesn't have all the latest price updates, you wind up having to track an employee down and that can take a while.
Especially if the store is super busy because there are usually only 2 or 3 "roamers" around to help. The delay gets even longer if they can't fix it and have to go find the manager.
Overall, I like it. Good thing because we're all going to be using it pretty soon.
