Last year, over 40,000 people went missing in Texas. These maps seem to indicate that they, (some anyway), may have simply fallen into a cave.

Almost half a million folks vanished across the United States of America last year with over 300,000 of them were minors. Many were kidnapped or ran away and some may have fallen overboard or something but one theory suggests that many may have simply gotten lost in, were injured in or fell into a cave.

A new map has been popping up all over the internet that links missing person reports with cave systems. Of course, it could be photoshopped or just coincidental but it kinda makes sense.

How Accurate Is The Cave System/Missing Persons Map?

At first glance, it seems to make sense. However, it's also sort of a map of natural parks and people vanish in them all the time. Granted, they're usually found.

One theory says that while some disappearances do result from people getting lost or falling into caves, it doesn't happen as often as the map above would have you believe.

Snopes, (the ultimate, online rumor debunker), does not dispute the cave/missing person coincidence but, they haven't totally shot it down either.

Other theories put the blame on cannibals or other, "feral" human beings living underground who use the cave systems to travel back and forth across the country.

Personally, it all sounds pretty crazy to me. I'll put myself down a non-believer on this one. On the other hand, I'm also not going to hang out by any caves. Just to be safe ...
