New Sci-Fi Movie Showcases Work of Texas-Born Producer
Now playing in theaters is a sci-fi thriller set in the not-so-distant future that features the work of a few Texas-born producers!
The Assessment stars Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen and Himesh Patel as couple living in a world where the government controls all and only the very privileged can have children and have to be "assessed" before they can have children; the assessor is played by Alicia Vikander. It kind of sounds like a Black Mirror episode, and it looks like it soon turns into a nightmare for the couple!
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September and then was recently released in theaters here in the United States, check out the trailer below.
The film currently holds an 84% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes- and is being hailed for its originality. And while the film is directed by French director Fleur Fortune, the thriller has a Texas touch to it!
Allen Gilmer, and his wife Riki Rushing, are both producers on the film and both hail from the Lone Star state! Gilmer, according to his IMDb page, is an El Paso-born native having graduated from UTEP and is a retired geophysicist!
Gilmer is the Managing Partner, along with Rushing, of AHUEVO Films; AHUEVO produces content focused on bringing attention to people, ideas, and issues that require clarity to improve the human condition. Gilmer's other films include Death in Texas, which was actually filmed in El Paso and Las Cruces.
