Don’t Mess With Texas – 2,300 Vanity Plates Were Denied In 2024
Texas uses a pattern of numbers and letters for vehicle license plates but, if you don't like yours, you can (almost) always get the combo that you do like. Almost ...
When a vehicle is registered in Texas, it receives a license plate that identifies the vehicle. The lone star state uses a specific pattern to create license plates, 3 letters, followed by 4 numbers. 123 - ABCD for example.
Texas also allows drivers to choose their own letter/number combo. For between $50 and $570 ...$570?? WTH?? ... folks can order a "vanity" plate. You can apply for yours, here.
As long as your chosen combo isn't already in use, you're good to go with it. Unless Texas finds it offensive or "commanding" to other drivers. 123 - HONK, I guess, is a no - no and F*K - THAT is probably out too.
I guess KLAQROX would be ok and, I must admit, there is a certain appeal to DUBBAG1 ... but, still, I pay enough in taxes. Texas doesn't need any more help from me.
I'll take what I get, thank you. As for what goes on the plate, there are certain rules and Texas is VERY serious about 'em. In 2024, 2,300 vanity plates were denied. Some of these posted by the Fort Worth - Star Telegram weren't even all that bad:

NT LEGAL, R3DNCK and REAL AF got shot down too so, now that you know the Texas DMV doesn't have much of a sense of humor, be careful what you ask for.
