This Texas County Has Some of the Highest Cancer Rates in the Country
Cancer is a very serious topic. With October nearly over, it's a good time to remind all the people in your life to get checked for anything. When looking at the state of Texas as a whole, there is one county that has an alarming rate of cancer cases.
According to USnews.com, Polk County in Texas has a high rate of cancer cases in the entire state of Texas.
According to the website, Polk County has a population of about 50,123 and they have an average annual rate of 408 cases. Now, it's important to remember that cancer doesn't just sporadically pop up by population; there are a variety of reason as to why a particular county has a high rate of cancer cases.
The website doesn't specify what kind of cancer is the highest in the county, but according to the Houston Chronicle, smoking is quite popular in the county, and I don't need to tell you what that could possibly lead to. There is an entire breakdown like how many have insurance, life expectancy and education, but again, there are several reasons as to why someone may get cancer.
But the good news is that Texas also has seven counties that have the lowest cancer rates in the entire country! They are:
- Jeff Davis County
- Presidio County
- Concho County
- Glasscock County
- Culberson County
- Sherman County
- Roberts County
There's an entire breakdown that could probably explain it better than I can, but let this be a reminder to get yourself checked; every Texan deserves to life a long, healthy life.
