Can Cops In Texas Ticket People Without Telling Them?
If you're a speeder in Texas, don't assume that just because you didn't get stopped you got away with it. Big Brother is alive and well in the lone star state.
We've all been guilty of speeding at some point in time or another and most of us have gotten cited for it once or twice. Pretty soon though, just because you made it to your destination without being stopped won't neccessarily mean you got away with it.
Lone star lead foots may think they're ok since they didn't even see a cop on their way to work. On the other hand, thanks to new technology, they may have an unpleasant surprise coming in the mail.
Police Can Issue Tickets Without Stopping You
I really, really don't like this. I may have to actually start driving at the posted speed limit all the time and ... trust me ... it's going to drive me nuts. Don't bother trying to watch far ahead for police "fishing" along the roadway either.
This new setup doesn't even require an actual cop ... it's a camera and they're already using them in the San Antonio area.
Bexar County District 3 Constable Mark Vojvodich says his deputies have begun using Scanning LIDAR, or light detection and ranging, on some of the local roadways as a way to encourage drivers to slow down.
The system, which involves the use of cameras equipped with infrared lights, is capable of scanning five lanes of traffic at a time.

Could These Cameras Cause Accidents?
Another reason to keep your eyes open and not speed would be to give you time to react to the drivers who slam on the brakes when they see these things. That's a big part of the reason Texas got rid of all the red light cameras - all the rear end collisions they were causing.
With that in mind, let's see how long these things last. For now, they're only issuing warnings but actual tickets will come eventually so, beware.
