System of a Down and Deftones are teasing what looks to be a Monday (April 23) announcement of a joint North American tour. Hot on the heels of the news that they both will be playing Heavy MTL and Heavy T.O. festivals up in Canada this summer, it looks like more dates together are in the works, as the bands used their social media and online properties to drop obvious hints.

SOAD took to Facebook to post a photo of bassist Shavo Odadjian holding in a Deftones laminate while peering at the camera with a menacing (and somewhat mischievous) stare.

The ‘Tones posted a shot of vocalist Chino Moreno cradling a System all-access pass under the banner “Important Announcement.”

Both bands were huge purveyors and key players of the late ’90s and early ’00s metal surge, enjoying rampant touring success and radio hits, as well. It was the perfect storm, since neither band blunted or dulled their edges, either. They set the bar high and few bands of their ilk have reached similar levels of success in the ensuing decade.

With System back in action after a lengthy hiatus and Deftones keeping the fire going for two decades, it’ll certainly be a tour that’s dosed with a little bit of nostalgia and a whole lot of chunky riffs.

Expect the moshpits to be at dangerous, code red levels. Check back on Monday for what will most likely be the full tour announcement.
