Sunken Cities Rising In Texas And Near El Paso
The hot, dry conditions of the last few years have caused lake levels to drop across Texas and around El Paso. Now the past is rising from the depths in some places.
The last few summers have been way hot and extra dry. No big news flash there, we're all painfully aware of this but, as scary as that is, it's had one interesting side effect. It's bringing back the past as sunken cities begin to re-arise.
Entire towns have been flooded to create reservoirs and lakes around Texas and New Mexico.
Sunken Texas Cities
Falcon Lake is near Laredo, Texas. The lake itself is manmade, (just about every lake in Texas is, believe it or not), and once the dam was finished, the entire town of Falcon was flooded to create the reservoir. Now, in places, you can once again walk its streets. Check out some pics here.

Creepy but cool ... while this whole lakes drying up thing is downright scary. Falcon Lake isn't the only one that took a town in Texas, there are actually several. (Lake Texoma sunk 4 all by itself.) There's also a sunken town pretty close to El Paso but it's not in Texas.
Sunken New Mexico Cities
Several towns in New Mexico met the same fate including Bonito City which is now Bonito Lake, about 150 miles from El Paso. The town had, as all cities do, its darker stories including the murder of an entire family and a handful of people who tried to intervene. Bonito Lake is said to be haunted AF.
A shorter drive, about 2 hours, north of El Paso, brings you to Elephant Butte. A couple of towns and outposts once stood there. They weren't flooded specifically for the lake but the ground they once occupied lies beneath it along with the area where dam workers lived while building it.
