State Drive-Thru Testing Sites Re-Located To Larger Locations
People have been rushing to get tested in the El Paso area and to better help, the community, the State of Texas testing sites are consolidating to make the process more efficient.
Since the State of Texas began COVID testing a few months ago, we've seen an increase in people wanting to get tested as the positive cases surged. Wait times to get tested have increased, with some in the area saying they waited hours in long lines to simply get tested.
Now, the State of Texas testing sites is being consolidated and moved to new locations. These new "mega" drive-thru locations will accommodate more vehicles and will hopefully expedite the testing at the sites. Four testing sites have been merged into 2 larger locations.
The state contractor Honu will be working with the Office of Emergency Management and Texas Department of Emergency Management, El Paso Community College, and Socorro Independent School District at these two new mega drive-thru locations.
These two new mega locations will allow for multiple testing lanes that haven't been possible at the other testing locations. The Memorial swimming pool location only had one lane open to get tested, and the line could snake around the park on busy days.
Now the multiple lanes will help expedite testing so sites can offer up to 1,000 tests per site, per day.
The only site that will remain at its current location is the walk-up/drive-thru site at Nations Tobin Recreation Center. Testing is FREE, new locations will NOT require appointments to get tested and you DO NOT have to be displaying any symptoms. The nasal tests will be administered at these locations and the oral test will not be available.
