Breast Cancer Awareness month is right around the corner and the community is invited to kick off the month at the first-ever Stand with Estela Casas 5k, Fun Walk & Kid’s Dash.

The 5k event will take place on Saturday, October 1st at Ascarate Park and it will also include a one-mile walk, and children under 9 can participate in the Kid’s Dash. The event will feature live entertainment, local vendors, and food trucks for families to enjoy before and after the race.

It’s been a while since the El Paso community has had a breast cancer awareness walk/run so it’s nice to see a familiar face taking on the lead to bring back this event to raise funds for those impacted by breast cancer in our community.

All of the funds raised from this run will stay in our community to provide lifesaving resources and services to financially strapped families to prevent, treat, and recover from a cancer journey.

The first 500 people to sign up will receive a one-of-a-kind finisher’s medal, and trophies for the top 3 finishers and age-group and Kid’s Dash medals will be awarded.

The event will also serve as a way for uninsured women above the age of 40 to get 3d mammograms courtesy of Desert Imaging.

Up to 200 3D mammogram vouchers will be provided to uninsured women above age 40 and will provide onsite mammograms with the Mammos on the Move (MOM) mobile mammography clinic.

But wait! There’s more! Albertsons will provide 300 free flu shots and $25 gift cards (limit 2 per family), Centro San Vicente will provide free Covid vaccines and boosters for ages 6 months and above.

Before race day, the public is invited to attend A Prayer for Healing and Transformation at the El Paso County Healing Garden.

The prayer will be hosted by County Judge Ricardo Samaniego, Estela Casas, and other leaders on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at Ascarate Park to honor our loved ones who are or have been on a cancer journey.

This run is not only a way for The Stand with Estela Casas Cancer Foundation to raise funds to help those in need in our community, but it is also a way to bring our community together to remind one another to take care of their health and to support one another through whatever journey they are dealing with.
