Sports In 2020 – Locomotive FC, Yes. El Paso Chihuahuas, No
It's not just The Chihuahuas, there will not be any Minor League Baseball at all this year.
This sucks. The El Paso Chihuahuas will not be playing any games this season, nor will any Minor League teams, due to the COVID - 19 pandemic. According to the El Paso Herald-Post, MountainStar Sports Group and Chihuahuas President Alan Ledford said:
While the tradition of Minor League Baseball will take a hiatus this spring and summer, rest assured that our organization will continue to serve our community and our schools, and create memories in new ways through social media, technology and other creative means. At the same time, we are already preparing for the return of Triple-A baseball to El Paso’s de facto town square, Southwest University Park, in 2021. In the meantime, stay well and we thank you all for the amazing support we’ve received during this very challenging time.” - EPHP
That's a major drag as El Pasoans have come to love The Chihuahuas and Southwest University Park. Throughout the pandemic, the Chihuahuas have interacted with their fans through a myriad of social media platforms and their beloved mascot Chico will continue to work with local school districts and other community organizations.
If you purchased tickets for any or all the 2020 El Paso Chihuahuas games, please contact email@example.com or text (915) 533-BASE (2273) for info on what you need to do next. For area soccer fans, the news is a little brighter. El Paso Locomotive FC will resume their 2020 season on July 11th. A game schedule will soon be posted at eplocomotivefc.com.
