Soundgarden are offering up an extended version of their new song ‘Live to Rise’ on iTunes at no charge for a limited time. Hurry, the clock is ticking.

Soundgarden fans will have to hold out just a little bit longer for their first new album since 1996′s ‘Down on the Upside,’ as it is now set for a fall 2012 release. However, their newest material has already been released and will appear ‘The Avengers’ soundtrack — that being their song ‘Live to Rise.’

The track, Soundgarden’s first entirely new release in almost 16 years, was actually recorded after completion of the upcoming new album — just weeks ago according to Chris Cornell. “[Live to Rise] was written so recently and recorded recently, like last week… I barely remember it it happened so fast,” Cornell told Los Angeles Radio Station KROQ upon the song’s debut.
