Silva’s Super Market Live Auction Going Down This Tuesday

A chile roaster, gumball machines, holiday decor, an ice-cream freezer, and an antique National cash register are among the hundreds of items to be sold at the Silva's Super Market live auction on Tuesday.

For four generations, the name Silva has long been one of the oldest merchants in town. After 101 years in business, the Silva family retired and closed their grocery store in Segundo Barrio in downtown El Paso near the Stanton Street Bridge in 2019.

I have some profound memories of Silva’s Super Market as a kid visiting El Paso. The store was my family’s preferred butcher shop, and it was also an opportunity for me to get a toy or trinket from the Gift Shoppe inside the store.

While the store itself was not massive as most grocery stores today, it offered everything that we needed, especially all the good Mexican products that one would not usually find at your local market.

Now the remnants of the historic market are being auctioned off this coming week by Edward R. Williams Auctions.

• Live Auction: 9 a.m.
