The Foods El Paso Loves When It’s Blazing Outside
It's officially that time of year: Do not ask me to do anything that doesn't involve air conditioning!
In El Paso, we take our AC seriously. And can you blame us? We're under another heat advisory this week, with temperatures climbing to around 107 degrees. It's the kind of heat that has everyone sprinting from the house to the car and treating shaded parking spots like they won the lottery.
Naturally, all this heat got me wondering about something important.
El Paso Shared Its Favorite Foods for Triple-Digit Days
I asked our listeners a simple question: What is your go-to food or treat when the summer heat becomes unbearable?
I expected a few responses. Instead, we were flooded with answers!
Some people kept it simple with "just ice." Others had very specific instructions for their iced tea, right down to how much ice and sweetness it should have. There were plenty of mentions of watermelon, paletas, snow cones and other refreshing favorites.
The responses were funny and incredibly on-brand for the summer heat in EP.

El Paso Has Mastered the Art of Beating the Heat
One thing became clear after reading through all the comments: everyone in El Paso has their own summer survival routine.
For some people, it's an icy drink. For others, it's fruit straight from the refrigerator or a favorite frozen treat. And for many of us, certain foods just immediately remind us of summer in the Borderland.
Reading through the comments felt like scrolling through an unofficial guide to surviving an El Paso summer!
One Response Had Everyone Doing a Double Take
Then there was the answer that stopped me in my tracks:
Caldo. As in, soup!
A steaming bowl of caldo while we're under a heat advisory and flirting with 107 degrees outside sounds almost like a dare. Yet, somehow, several people agreed.
I shouldn't be surprised. In fact, I've already admitted to being a victim of summertime caldo myself. Sometimes, comfort food doesn't care what the thermometer says.
Maybe that's the beauty of El Paso. We can all agree that the heat is brutal, but we each have our own delicious way of getting through it.
Whether your answer is a paleta, a giant glass of iced tea, a cup full of ice or, yes, even caldo, one thing is certain: El Paso knows how to survive summer.
