The second day of the 2012 Lollapalooza festival kicked off yesterday, only to be interrupted by Mother Nature by mid-afternoon. With the threat of thunderstorms looming, all ticket holders and performers were evacuated from Grant Park in Chicago, Ill.

Concert-goers were directed to pre-established underground evacuation and shelter sites while the storm passed but many music fans headed towards local restaurants and bars or took to congregating in the streets and nearby parking structures while they waited out the weather delay.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the gates reopened a few hours later at 6PM CST. City officials extended the curfew to help accommodate the weather delay and the event staff pushed the festival’s closing time back to 10:30, allowing most of the bands scheduled for Saturday to play.

Seemingly not hindered at all by the drama filled day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers closed out the night in rocking fashion on the Red Bull Sound Stage with a sixteen song set. They kicked it off with ‘Monarchy of Roses’ from their latest disc ‘I’m With You’ and powered through a career-spanning show that ended with an encore of ‘Give It Away.’ Pro-shot footage of ‘Under the Bridge,’ ‘Around the World,’ and ‘Look Around’ from last night’s performance can be seen below.

Day three of Lollapalooza kicks off today with everything back on schedule, check out the full calendar here.
