It’s a new year and that means it’s probably time to clean out your kitchen pantries. If you find that you did way too much shopping last year and need somewhere to donate your extra food to, we got you!

The El Paso Public Library and El Paso Animal Services have partnered with the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger for their annual “Food for Fines” program.

This program is a way for locals to pay down their library fines while also supporting two great causes.

This is a great opportunity for library patrons to bring their materials back to the library to start putting their accounts back in good standing so they can start using their borrowing privileges again,” said Library officials.

From Tuesday, January 3rd through Friday, January 20, 2023, Library patrons will be able to pay down their library fines by donating non-perishable human and pet food items to those in need. The food collected will be donated to El Pasoans Fighting Hunger and El Paso Animal Shelter.

The El Paso Public Library decided to include Animal Services Shelter this year due to their struggles with having enough food to provide meals with the increasing amount of shelter dogs at the shelter.

The food must be brought to any El Paso Public Library location during the Food for Fines period.

The Library will waive $1.00 of fines owed to the Library for every donated can of non-perishable human food, $1 per can of pet food, or $1 for every 2 pounds of dry pet food, provided their library materials have been returned.
