Terry Jones, one of the founding member of the comedy troupe Monty Python, has passed away at the age of 77. In addition to acting and writing, Jones directed the Python classics “Life of Brian” and “The Meaning of Life”. He also was the co-director of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” along with fellow Python Terry Gilliam.

Jones played dozens of memorable Python characters on both television and in the movies. Here are three of my favorites:

1.) Brian’s Mother in “Life of Brian”

This was a kind of “stock” character for Jones: the shrill, nagging, middle-aged woman. In “Life of Brian” the character is used as the mother of Brian Cohen who the Wise Men initially mistake for Jesus and his mother Mary.

BEST LINE: “He’s NOT the Messiah! He’s a very naughty boy!”

2.) Sir Bedivere in “Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Bedivere is the one overseeing the trial of the “witch”.

BEST LINE: “ A newt?”

3.) Mr. Creosote in “The Meaning of Life”

The supremely morbidly obese gourmand who violently explodes after being convinced to eat “just one wafer thin mint”. This scene is one of the most memorable in all the history of Monty Python if for no other reason than the EXTREME grossness.
