The mural unveiling featured guest speakers as well as performances by Alderete Middle School cheerleaders, band, and Canutillo High School Mariachi Band.

“We would like to thank The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso for the amazing opportunity to do this work, to tell our story, and to partner in helping allow young female aspiring artists to show their talents as they learned about their community,” said Canutillo School District Officials.

According to School District officials, much of the information on this mural comes from the documentation that was provided by Canutillo residents. Some provided hard copies of documents that are over 100 years old, others were sons and daughters of the very persons portrayed, and yet others were eyewitnesses to the locations and events depicted here.

The center of the mural has Canutillo Tx spelled out with the Canutillo School District logo right on top.

Other notable and historic images painted on the mural include La Paloma Grocery and an image of Mexican soldiers during The Pancho Villa Connection.

“Pancho Villa and his generals used to regularly come to Canutillo and frequent Fernando Carrasco’s grocery store La Paloma. There the troops would purchase supplies, munitions, and any other needs they might have. Canutillo was a strong supporter of this,” said Canutillo ISD Officials.
