The Hobbs, New Mexico teen who threw her newborn baby into a dumpster is asking a judge to allow visitation.

Back on January 7th, 2022, 18-year-old Alexis Avila attempted to dispose of her newborn child in a dumpster outside a business in the 1400 block of North Thorp. Roughly six hours later someone found the baby and reported it to the Hobbs Police Department. Surveillance footage of the incident showed Avila's license plate and shortly after she was taken into custody.

The baby boy was treated at the scene and transported to a Lubbock hospital for additional treatment.

After her arrest, Avila told authorities she didn't know she was pregnant and when she gave birth she wasn't sure what to do. EverythingLubbock reports a motion was filed asking to grant permission for Avila to have supervised visits with the baby, who currently lives with the father.

Avila is charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse. She's currently out of jail and on house arrest pending trial.

A judge has yet to rule on the motion.
