Aspiring dentists from New Mexico can now study in New Mexico and save a lot of $$,

On top of the huge cost of going to dental school in the first place, students from the land of enchantment also had to factor in other expenses like moving, room and board, meals, etc.

New Mexico also experiences a great degree of "brain drain" when NM students graduate but choose not to bring their skills back home.

That "brain drain" thing is real boy - New Mexico has an average of 48 dentists for every 1,000 people while the national average is 60. Granted, every state has a certain level of "lost talent" but, when it comes to dentistry anyway, NM is way behind.

Now, hopefully, that will stop as wannabe dentists and practitioners in the 575 can study at home. Close enough for weekend visits to do laundry and raid the fridge anyway. New Mexico isn't that big.

The Touro College of Dental Medicine is officially up and running in Albuquerque.

Why Albuquerque?

New Mexico lags behind the nation in the average number of oral healthcare professionals servicing residents of the state. Recent studies reveal that the number of dentists per 100,000 people in New Mexico is only 48.4, below the national average of 60.84. “We anticipate that there will be a significant number of graduates who remain in New Mexico to pursue their dental careers filling this void, adding to our incentive to build the new facility and clinic in the land of enchantment,” said Dr. Myers. - dental.touro.edu

On top of all the accolades and respect Touro University already has across the country, the one in Albuquerque will probably draw a lot of students from Texas for another reason. College students over here don't have legal marijuana.
