It’s been two years since the Socorro Independent School District held its annual Mother-Daughter Conference, and this year they are excited to bring it back with a bang!

Growing up, it was my mom and dad who helped me get through the challenges I faced when I was a young adult and I wish I had conferences like these back when I was in high school, but regardless, I am so happy to see this conference is available for young girls.

All SISD 6th through 12th-grade girls and their mothers or mother figures are invited to attend the 11th Annual Growing Together Mother-Daughter Conference happening on Saturday, February 4th at Eastlake high school.

This conference is a way for mothers and daughters to learn more about each other while bonding through various activities throughout the day.

The conference is an all-day event starting at 8 am and wrapping up at 3 pm. Mothers and their daughters will participate in several activities and workshops that will touch on various topics.

Students will be able to learn more about career choices, college opportunities, self-esteem, and self-confidence workshops.

Kicking off the conference will be Keynote Speaker Laura Rizo from “Rizo Speaks Life.”

Rizo was a high school counselor who now spends her time speaking to young students to inspire them in overcoming obstacles and find their purpose with passion.

She has been a youth mentor for over 20 years for various organizations, such as MADD, Extreme Youth Leadership, Project MALES, Teens in the Driver Seat, AVID, and the TX Say What Tobacco-Free Organization. She has spoken for many events, from Drug and Alcohol Awareness Rallies to STAAR Pep Rallies, Shattered Dreams Simulations, Teacher Professional Development, Mental Health Awareness Conferences, and much more.

Yours truly (Me, Iris. Hi) will wrap up the event as a keynote closing speaker.

My organization, Mija, Yes You can will join the conference to provide young students with motivational words on knowing your worth and never giving up, despite the struggles thrown your way.

Mija, Yes you can will also set up their Mija pop-up shop throughout the conference. Moms and daughters can purchase Mija t-shirts from the pop-up and other Mija merchandise.

The mother-daughter conference is free, and breakfast and lunch will be provided. Participants must register before attending the conference. You can register online by Clicking Here.

Organizers ask that those participating bring canned goods, which will be donated to families in need within the school district.
