Guess Which Vehicles Are Stolen Most In New Mexico & Texas
The odds of your car being stolen are higher in New Mexico and Texas than in just about every other state. Here are the ones that thieves seem to like the most ...
Vehicle theft rates across the USA fell in 2024 from over 1 million to 850,700. Texas & New Mexico ranked pretty high in terms of stolen rides along with Washington, D.C., California, New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada.
Colorado is #1 with 583 motor vehicle thefts per 100,000 inhabitants. This makes auto theft 90 percent more likely in Colorado than the national average. (autoinsurance.com)
For 2024, just as in 2023, two Hyundai models – the Elantra and Sonata – were the most stolen cars making those, unfortunately, back to back champs. In Texas, both of those made the top 10 but, being Texas, pickup trucks were #1 and #2.
In fact, pickups took 4 of the top 5 spots in Texas. In New Mexico, only 2 truck models made the entire top 10 for the land of enchantment.
Part of the reason so many Hyundais are getting ripped off is Tik Toks fault. Some Hyundai owners were able to get some cash to modify their cars, you can see if you qualify here.
