I was telling the young'uns on the show about an episode of Happy Days in which Richie and The Fonz help out a guy who lacked self-esteem by getting him in the Guinness Book of World Records. The record they picked out was "most quarters snatched off of your elbow". That probably makes no sense if you haven't seen the episode. Here it is.

I remember the day after that episode aired. It was a Wednesday (I know this because Tuesday was "Happy Days" night) and I was in fourth grade. All of the boys, and a few of the girls, were trying to snatch quarters off of their elbows. Well, I want you to know ... I was the king of elbow quarter-snatching that day!

Not just in my class but ALL of fifth grade at Eastside Elementary School in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. We started off with two or three, and by the end of the day I think I had managed 20. The "record" on Happy Days was 40 but , c'mon -- 20 with my little fourth grade-sized hand? I've got to believe that's pretty impressive.

So, we decided to give it a shot. If I could do 20 when I was eleven, surely I can do 40 now, right? Also, our boss, Kevin Vargas, remembered winning many bar bets doing the same maneuver. Here's the video so you can see how we all fared.
