Monday Mashup: Eminem and E.L.O.
This Mashup comes to us from William Maranci. You can check out his Mashups on his YouTube channel here.
Do you remember when “8 Mile” came out all the way back in 2002? Eminem won an Academy Award (for “Original Song” although his acting also got overwhelmingly positive reviews). The soundtrack and the single won multiple Grammys. Eminem was being compared to the Beatles for being a musician AND making a movie that wasn’t terrible. I guess, more than anything, I’m surprised Eminem hasn’t done MORE in the way of acting. He did a few cameos here and there but a lot of people expected him to do more acting projects, kind of like a Reverse-Jared Leto.
Does anyone remember that Falcon from the Avengers was in 8 mile? He played “Papa Doc/Clarence” who was kind of the “final boss” in the rap battles. I didn’t until I started researching for this article.
Electric Light Orchestra is one of the greatest rock bands to come out of the 1970s. ELO founder Jeff Lynne is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, record producer AND he was a founding member of the Traveling Wilburys, one of my favorite bands of the 1980s.
Our Monday Mashup today features “Lose Yourself” by Eminem on vocals and the music from ELO’s “Mr. Blue Sky”. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it “slaps”. I’m not even sure if it qualifies as a “banger”. But the two songs work together more than I ever would have expected.
Here’s today’s Monday Mashup: Eminem and ELO with “Lose Yourself, Mr. Blue Sky”.
