This Legendary Metal Band Snags Another El Paso Musician For Their Lineup
If you know the metal band Ministry, you know that Al Jorgensen is not only the brains behind the group, but he's also an honorary citizen of El Paso, Texas. He's lived here for years, and he's recorded a couple of Ministry albums at Sonic Ranch (and his own home studio).
Al isn't the only Ministry member who's lived in El Paso; Cesar Soto, Ministry's incredible guitarist, is ALSO from El Paso. While he currently resides in L.A., Cesar was and always has been an El Pasoan at heart.
Recently the band can now add ANOTHER local musician from El Paso to join their metal ranks; Kyng drummer, Pepe Clarke Magaña can now officially say he's a member of Ministry.
Who is El Paso's Pepe Clarke Magaña?
Pepe was born in Juarez, Mexico but he currently lives in El Paso. If you've gone to the Let There Be Rock Music School, then you've been to the children's music school that's owned by Pepe. And as mentioned before, he's also the drummer for the band Kyng, who were formed in Los Angeles in 2008. Pepe has been their drummer since the band's inception.
Pepe joined the band Ministry earlier in August after their drummer, Roy Mayorga, had to take a break on tour so he can play with Jerry Cantrell. As a result, Pepe was asked to fill in for Ministry. Being the huge fan of Roy, Pepe, of course, was more than willing to help.
Pepe even told us directly that is not just a 1 or 2 show deal; Pepe will be filling in for Roy with the band Ministry for at least a year.
You can see some shots of Pepe nailin' Ministry's songs on the drums along his El Paso brothers Al, Cesar and the rest of the guys from Ministry at their Albuquerque show.
I speak for everyone in the local music scene by saying, keep it up Pepe! You, Cesar, Al & the whole band have nothing but love from us here in El Paso.
Ministry is not the only band with close ties to El Paso; you can read about several more (like Motley Crue or Escape the Fate) here.
