This Old El Paso Favorite Is Bringing Back Childhood Memories
If you grew up in El Paso, there’s a very good chance you remember the excitement of hearing your class was going on a field trip to Insights Science Museum!
For a lot of local kids, it wasn’t just another school outing- it was the ultimate field trip. The second your teacher mentioned Insights, the entire class suddenly paid attention. Between the hands-on exhibits, science experiments and colorful interactive displays, spending the day there felt way more exciting than sitting in a classroom.
Now, Insights just unlocked that core memory for a whole lot of El Pasoans.
Insights Was the Ultimate Field Trip For Every El Paso Kid
A recent Instagram post shared by the organization instantly sent people into nostalgia mode, with everyone flooding the comments remembering their childhood visits to the science center. For many, it immediately brought back memories of school buses, packed lunches, permission slips and trying not to get separated from your group while running around the exhibits.
Part of what made Insights so memorable was that it actually made learning feel fun.
You weren’t just walking through a museum quietly staring at displays. You got to touch things, experiment, explore and feel like you were discovering something new around every corner. When you were little, the place felt huge.

For a lot of El Paso millennials especially, Insights became one of those shared childhood experiences almost everyone seems to remember.
And judging by the comments on the recent post, people still have a soft spot for it years later.
Insights Still Exists In A Different Way Today
While many people remember the original downtown location on Santa Fe Street, Insights no longer operates as a traditional brick-and-mortar museum.
The original museum was demolished in 2013 to make way for what would eventually become Southwest University Park. The organization later reopened inside the former Alamo Elementary School in 2017 before eventually transitioning away from a permanent physical location.

Today, Insights Science Discovery operates as a mobile and outreach-based program, bringing STEAM exhibits and interactive learning experiences directly to schools, libraries, parks and community events throughout the Borderland.
So while the museum building itself may be gone, the organization is still finding ways to introduce a new generation of El Paso kids to science and discovery.
There’s something about old El Paso places that instantly unlock memories the second you see a photo of them.
And for a lot of us, Insights will always be tied to the excitement of elementary school field trips and one of the few days where learning actually felt like an adventure.
