Longhorns QB Ewers Declares for NFL Draft
A lot of UT fans expected it and on Wednesday Quinn Ewers confirmed it. The Longhorns quarterback announced his decision on social media to enter the 2025 NFL draft AND that his college career at Texas is over.
Ewers was the starting QB for three years, the last two of which saw the Longhorns playing in the College Football Playoff.
Ewers for the most part had avoided questions about his future. There was much speculation in Austin that Ewers, still with a year of eligibility might be entertaining lucrative offers (remember, you get paid now to play college football) from other universities. Instead, he’s heading to the NFL. However, pro GMs and coaches are split on his potential. ESPN’s Mel Kiper just ranked Ewers as the fifth-best quarterback in the NFL draft.
Ewers's departure clears the way for Arch Manning to start at QB in the fall. There’s a ton of expectation on Manning, the grandson and nephew of three all-time greats: Grandpa Archie Manning and Uncles Peyton and Eli.
3 Facts

Here are three facts about Quinn Ewers that even die-hard UT fans may not know:
1.) He’s leaving UT with a year of eligibility. Ewers also left HIGH SCHOOL a year early.
That’s right. He left high school after his Junior year. Quinn was the FIRST high school player to skip his senior year to play college football. He’s not a dropout, though. Ewers got his diploma and finished his coursework online.
2.) Ewers was the first amateur athlete to sign a Name, Image, Likeness deal worth over $1 million. Will he be taking a pay cut to play in the pros?
3.) Ewers spent his freshman year at Ohio State. That in itself isn’t an obscure fact, but this might be: in the Texas loss to Ohio State at the Cotton Bowl, Ewers was strip-sacked in the fourth quarter. The guy who did the strip-sacking (and ran it in for a defensive TD) was Jack Sawyer, Ewers's roommate during his time with the Buckeyes.
Here’s the very professional-looking video Ewers posted on social media to announce his decision:
