Legendary Actress Rita Moreno to join Plaza Classic Film Festival lineup

The line-up for this year’s Plaza Classic Film Festival has gotten even more legendary as it adds EGOT winner Rita Moreno to the list of stars joining the Plaza Classic Film Festival this July.

Rita Moreno is the last surviving member of the main cast of Singin’ in the Rain and she will be joining the film festival for the Singin’ in the Rain feature which will take place on Thursday, July 28th as well as for Steven Spielberg’s 2021 version of West Side Story at 7 p.m. Friday, July 29th.

This won’t be the first time Moreno has been associated with the Plaza Theatre. Back in 1986 she headlined a benefit concert at the Plaza Theatre which enabled the El Paso Community Foundation to purchase the deteriorating 1930 movie palace and eventually restore it with the City of El Paso. 

Moreno appeared again in 2007, the year after the theater reopened, and headlined the Plaza Classic in 2013. 

It was previously announced that El Paso Native, F. Murray Abraham, would be a special guest for this year’s Plaza Classic Film Festival.

Abraham is best known for his leading role as Antonio Salieri in the drama film Amadeus. He also won a Golden Globe and received a B.A.F.T.A. Award nomination for the role.

Abraham will appear with Amadeus at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 5th, and The Grand Budapest Hotel at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 6, both in the Plaza Theatre.

Tickets for this year’s Plaza Classic Film Festival will go on sale beginning June 27th, 2022 at the Plaza Theatre box office and online at ticketmaster.com.

The Plaza Classic Film Festival will take place July 28 to August 7, 2022.
